More information has been revealed regarding the arrest and conviction of San Francisco 49ers majority owner Jed York. York faced charges in Ohio, including “engaging in prostitution” and “possessing criminal tools.” The prostitution charge was reduced to “disorderly conduct” in a plea agreement, but it remains a significant issue in the eyes of fans and the media. This is particularly due to the fact that York’s net worth is reportedly around $500 million, and his family’s wealth is estimated at $8.5 billion.
Jed York was reportedly caught during a police sting operation by the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force in Columbiana County, Ohio. York allegedly responded to an ad on a well-known prostitution website and agreed to pay $140 for sexual activities. The meeting was scheduled near the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community, a trailer park in East Palestine, Ohio, where officers intercepted and arrested him.
When arrested, York possessed the cell phone used to arrange the meeting. Consequently, he faced a charge of “possessing criminal tools.” He later pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools. The NFL is reviewing the matter under its Personal Conduct Policy, last updated in 2014, which applies to anyone associated with the league, including owners, coaches, and players.
The NFL stated that regardless of a criminal conviction, if the league finds conduct detrimental to the integrity of the NFL, disciplinary actions could follow. The 49ers have not commented on the matter, citing that the case is closed.
Recent incidents involving the 49ers also include head coach Kyle Shanahan’s car crash in July 2026 and player Brandon Aiyuk’s arrest warrant for speeding. Shanahan admitted to being distracted and is awaiting the outcome of the NFL’s ruling on York’s case. This series of incidents has brought unwanted attention to the team.
