Sean McVay, head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, has built a strong reputation since he began leading the team in 2017. Throughout his tenure, McVay has experienced only a single losing season, entering what is now his tenth year as head coach.
After a disappointing 5-12 record at the end of the 2022 season, following a Super Bowl victory against the Cincinnati Bengals, McVay considered stepping away from football. In an interview aired on ’60 Minutes,’ he shared his struggle, reflecting on losses and feeling disconnected from his usual drive.
McVay credited his wife, Veronika Khomyn, with providing a necessary reality check. “I was ready to run away from coaching,” McVay explained, recalling how Khomyn challenged him on his wavering commitment. He stated, “The idea of quitting didn’t sit well.” Her words inspired him to continue focusing on leadership.
McVay’s resilience paid off as the Rams saw consecutive seasons of improvement, ending 2025 with a 12-5 record and advancing to the NFC Championship. Although the team lost to the Seattle Seahawks, they demonstrated considerable growth.
To bolster their chances for future success, the Rams acquired Myles Garrett in a trade and brought Aaron Donald out of retirement. Despite a Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Australia, McVay remains committed to steering the Rams back to the Super Bowl.
With renewed energy and strategic trades, McVay maintains his focus on leading the team effectively as they prepare for a Monday night game against the New York Giants.
