Senator Criticizes Alleged Misconduct and Senate Hearing Absence

Senator Marsha Blackburn, a Republican from Tennessee, has criticized former Special Counsel Jack Smith for allegedly obtaining text messages from 44 members of Congress without proper authorization. Blackburn argues that Smith violated laws and abused his power. She highlights Smith’s previous denials concerning phone record acquisition and calls for an investigation into the ‘Arctic Frost’ probe, raising concerns about privacy and legal procedures.

On Wednesday, the Democratic members of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee were notably absent as Republicans questioned witnesses in a hearing focused on ‘Exposing Fraud in America.’ This absence prompted Republican criticism. Senator Gary Peters from Michigan, the committee’s ranking member, was the only Democrat visible at the start of the hearing, and he left before Chairman Rand Paul from Kentucky began questioning witnesses, including Nick Shirley, James O’Keefe, and Dylan Hedtler-Gaudette.

Fox News reported that it reached out to all Democrats on the committee but did not receive responses before the publication time. It also sought a reaction from Paul. Republicans and conservative commentators quickly reproached the Democrats’ absence as fraud issues in states like Minnesota and California remain under scrutiny.

Other Democrats on the panel include Senators John Fetterman from Pennsylvania, Maggie Hassan from New Hampshire, Richard Blumenthal from Connecticut, among others. During the hearing, Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno addressed the lack of Democratic presence. When Paul invited Florida Senator Rick Scott to question witnesses, Moreno noted that Democrats would generally have the chance to speak after Republicans. Paul replied, confirming that no Democrats were present for a discussion about fraud.

The Democrats’ absence led to online criticism. Representative Lauren Boebert from Colorado called the missing Democrats ‘cowards’ in a social media message. Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner asked Senator Blackburn about the visual impact of empty Democratic seats. Blackburn stated that Democrats were not interested in uncovering the truth and highlighted areas where fraud seemed unchecked.

The Democrats seem to have turned a blind eye, allowing people to continue with fraudulent activities.

Blackburn introduced legislation previously, suggesting that defrauding the federal government should result in denaturalizing and deporting offenders. Political reporter Eric Daugherty noted the absence of Democrats at a significant ‘anti-taxpayer fraud meeting,’ emphasizing that none of them attended.

During the hearing, Nick Shirley, speaking about independent investigations in Minneapolis, described fraud as theft from honest citizens and explained the significant impact on vulnerable individuals reliant on government services. Shirley mentioned Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota’s announcement not to seek re-election and noted the criminal charges against a daycare organization receiving substantial government funding. He emphasized the severe consequences of fraud in Minnesota, including a major ‘autism fraud’ case.

James O’Keefe testified about recording numerous exchanges in Los Angeles related to election petition circulators offering drugs or money for ballot signatures. He criticized the political rhetoric of freedom and democracy, stating that without enforcement, these remain slogans rather than principles.
