Senator Darline Graham Considers Run for Full Senate Term

Senator Darline Graham recently received significant support from President Trump, leading to a shift in the upcoming race for Lindsey Graham’s Senate seat in South Carolina. She was appointed as the interim senator following her brother’s unexpected passing.

This week, Trump urged Senator Graham to participate in the special Republican primary set for August 11, 2026. His endorsement comes after a meeting in the Oval Office, where he expressed strong support for her potential candidacy.

Lindsey was one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known, and his sister shares his deep love of our Country, Trump commented on social media. He added that he wants Darline Graham to run for the Good of our Nation.

Initially, Graham was viewed as a temporary appointee, offering a secure Republican vote while multiple South Carolina politicians prepared for a competitive primary. However, Trump’s backing could transform her interim position into the foundation of a robust Senate campaign, capitalizing on her name recognition and incumbency benefits.

Several notable Republicans, including Representatives Russell Fry, Nancy Mace, Ralph Norman, and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, have shown interest in running against Democratic nominee Dr. Annie Andrews. Yet, Trump’s strong influence in South Carolina Republican politics might deter some competitors, though past endorsements in gubernatorial races have not always succeeded.

Darline Graham’s current appointment lasts until January 3, 2027, coinciding with what would have been the end of her brother’s fourth term. The special primary election’s deadline for filing is July 28 at noon.
