The storms left over a million power outages across Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky, with most occurrences in Ohio and Indiana. In Indiana’s Porter County, severe weather warnings included potential 100 mph winds. The Portage Mayor, Austin Bonta, declared an emergency as roads remained impassable. In Chicago, footage showed high winds toppling a stationary train trailer.

Meanwhile, Tammy McKee’s home in Frankfort, Illinois, suffered a fire due to suspected lightning or compromised power lines. McKee, recounting the moment, described hearing a loud explosion followed by smoke permeating the house.
