This decision came after officials reviewed Carrington’s action, where she caught Cunningham across the head and neck during a drive to the basket. Coach White raised eyebrows after the 90-86 win by denying that Carrington purposefully aimed for Cunningham’s neck. Cunningham dismissed any racial context to the ejection, citing past personal experiences. She commented, ‘This has nothing to do with race.’

Despite White’s familiarity with Carrington, due to coaching her previously, Cunningham desired stronger support from her current coach.
