Star Meat Delivery Inc. is recalling approximately 167,639 pounds of raw beef, pork, and goat due to production without federal inspection, as indicated in a U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) alert issued on Tuesday.
Inspection Concerns and Recall Details
The Class I recall specifies that these products carry a fraudulent USDA mark of inspection. FSIS classifies a Class I recall as presenting a health hazard with a reasonable probability of causing serious health consequences or even death.
Products marked with “EST. 1363” should be deemed unsafe, according to the alert. The FSIS has reported a series of recalls this year across the nation due to issues such as foodborne illness, contamination, lack of inspection, or undeclared allergens. Recently, there was also a recall for J. HIGGS branded loaded bacon and cheddar potato chips because of potentially undeclared soy, which can trigger allergic reactions.
Products and Distribution Information
The recalled beef, pork, and goat items were produced before Tuesday and distributed in bulk under the A&D Foods label to restaurants and retail locations nationwide. These products were vacuum-packed and placed in cardboard boxes. The alert mentions retail stores might have applied their own pricing and handling stickers, which means consumer packages might not carry official labeling.

Safety Measures and Consumer Guidance
The FSIS discovered the issue during its surveillance activities, warning that food produced without inspection might contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria, or other contaminants. Consumers can cross-reference individual product labels linked in the FSIS alert.
New details can lead to an expansion of the recall list. Consumers, retailers, and restaurants are advised not to consume or sell the affected products. They should return or dispose of these products safely.
Expert Insight on Food Safety
The ongoing recalls, including those for pork, beef, and goat products, highlight the growing attention to food safety issues such as salmonella and cyclospora. Keith Schneider, a professor of food safety at the UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, noted in a statement to Newsweek that recalls signify that the food safety system is working effectively. He explained that despite inherent risks in food production, identifying and resolving problems promptly is vital.
