Stella Parton Reflects on Sister Dolly Parton’s Passing and Legacy

3 weeks ago 0

Stella Parton revealed her sister Dolly Parton was at peace in her final moments after a cancer battle. Speaking to Gayle King on CBS Mornings, Stella highlighted Dolly’s serenity during a challenging time.

“I know she was at peace,” Stella shared with King, noting she could sense her sister’s emotions even from afar. “I could always tell by looking at her face, whether she was hurt, angry, happy, or sad.”

Fans continue to grieve for Dolly, known as a country music icon, businesswoman, and philanthropist. For Stella, she was primarily a beloved big sister, with whom she kept in touch every Tuesday over coffee.

“She knew where she was goin’,” Stella said, emphasizing Dolly’s comfort in joining their parents in passing. Dolly began her legendary career recording in places like the renowned RCA Studio A in Nashville during childhood, a journey Stella remembered vividly.

Dolly’s husband, Carl Thomas Dean, passed away in March last year. Stella described Carl as reserved and deeply adoring of Dolly, mentioning his fondness for her humor.

“He thought she was funny like Tinker Bell,” Stella mentioned, adding that Carl preferred simple, domestic moments with Dolly at home.

Though Dolly was “very sad” after Carl’s death, Stella doesn’t link this to her sister’s illness. She believes Dolly’s relentless work ethic throughout her life possibly contributed to her health issues.

Stella praised Dolly’s business savvy and commitment to her public image, noting her sister’s choice to keep political opinions private. “She had an opinion about things but never shared any of that,” Stella said.

Dolly’s commitment to her image was consistent. Stella recalled never seeing her sister without makeup, a testament to Dolly’s personal and public persona.

Heartbreakingly, despite public tributes, Stella received no condolences from the music community in Nashville. She speculated whether her own political activism played a role in this silence.

Reflecting on Dolly’s legacy, Stella underscored her sister’s unwavering optimism and creative spirit. “Her creativity had no bounds,” Stella said. She hopes young people see Dolly’s story as a testament to dreaming big, no matter their background.

Stella wants Dolly remembered as sweet, kind, loving, talented, and brilliant. She believes Dolly’s life inspired countless others to pursue their dreams with courage.
