A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder, linked to the tragic death of a young boy found shot on the city’s South Side, authorities reported. The charge of first-degree murder was announced by Chicago police in a news release issued Friday night.

This charge emerges nearly two months following the incident involving 13-year-old DeAntwan McKeever, who was discovered with a gunshot wound to his head. The shooting occurred in the South Chicago neighborhood on May 21. McKeever, a resident of West Town, was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Unfortunately, after a week of medical care, he passed away.

Authorities apprehended the suspect on Thursday in the 3000 block of East 79th Place within South Chicago. The accused is due to make his first court appearance on Saturday.
