President Donald Trump will honor a teen lifeguard at the White House following the lifeguard’s notable rescue of a child from rough surf, which has received national acclaim.
A video taken by Scott Vander Dussen of Santa Cruz Now and shared on social media shows the moment Ryder Williams, a 16-year-old lifeguard, saved a young boy from the waters of Seabright State Beach in Santa Cruz, California.
The 10-year-old was pulled approximately 15 yards offshore before Williams reached him. Several beachgoers also assisted in the two-minute rescue operation.
President Trump mentioned on social media, “We’re going to bring this heroic young man, and his family, into the White House with, perhaps, the boy he saved, to give him a High Civilian Honor. Very brave, he deserves it!”

Ryder Williams was recognized by his family through the California Post. His father, Shane Williams, expressed pride, remarking that his son is an exceptional child.
“He just wants to be a kid and work hard this summer and serve and protect his community,”
said Shane Williams.
“He’s doing great. We’re so overwhelmed,” his father added, noting his attempts to protect Ryder from too much attention amid the recognition. “I’m trying to shelter him. I still see him as a little boy.”
