Ryder Williams, a 16-year-old lifeguard from Santa Cruz, California, is being celebrated for his bravery after rescuing a child caught in perilous rip tides at Seabright State Beach. The young lifeguard’s quick actions saved 10-year-old Nathaniel from being swept out to sea.

Nathaniel’s father, Sumit Rai, expressed overwhelming gratitude for Williams’ courage. He shared his relief and admiration on Fox News Live, recounting the harrowing moment when his son called him, believing he was near death.

Details of the Daring Rescue

The rescue took place amid a high surf advisory, with waves reaching up to 10 feet. Nathaniel had been standing near the shoreline when a wave dragged him 15 yards into deeper waters. Ryder Williams, stationed at Tower 2, spotted Nathaniel in distress and made the immediate decision to act.

Williams radioed the situation, abandoned his equipment, and raced to the shore. Equipped with fins and a buoy, he plunged into the turbulent waters to reach Nathaniel.

“After the first wave, I couldn’t pull him out because he was limp and the waves were pushing so hard,” Williams recalled.

A fellow lifeguard, Aaron Bohnen, joined Williams to assist, and together they managed to bring Nathaniel to safety. Rai, overwhelmed by the rescue, emphasized the difficulty and effort required to move his son through the fierce waves.

Recognition and Gratitude

The rescue quickly gained national attention after being captured on video. Even President Donald Trump acknowledged Williams’ heroic deed, suggesting he visit the White House and receive a civilian honor. Rai wholeheartedly supported this idea, expressing his admiration for the young lifeguard’s bravery.

Speaking about his role, Williams remarked, “I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to return the child to his family safely. This is my job, and I love what I do. I’m thankful to my fellow lifeguards who perform rescues just like this every day.”

During the weekend, lifeguards in California’s Santa Cruz District conducted 34 rescues and initiated over 5,000 preventative contacts along the coastline, showcasing the vital role they play in ensuring safety at the beaches.
