Thursday marks the end of voting in Tennessee’s primary election, determining the Republican and Democratic nominees for the upcoming gubernatorial contest in November.
In Tennessee, known for its strong Republican leanings, the race for the Republican nomination is between Sen. Marsha Blackburn and Rep. John Rose, both representing Tennessee. Throughout most of the campaign, Blackburn has been the frontrunner. However, late polling suggests that the contest with Rose, who has served four terms representing a district covering parts of Nashville and much of Middle Tennessee, might be more competitive than initially thought.
Former President Trump has remained neutral in this race, opting not to endorse any candidate. In June, he informed Tennessee’s congressional delegation of his decision to refrain from endorsing a candidate in the primary.
The Democratic side features candidates such as Memphis City Council member Jerri Green, museum president Carnita Atwater, pastor Kevin Lee McCants, businessman Tim Cyr, and musician Adam Kurtz. Polling stations will close at 8 p.m. EDT.
