Terri DeBoer’s Congressional Bid: A GOP Push in Michigan

6 days ago 0

In Warren, Michigan, Terri DeBoer, a veteran meteorologist, has emerged as a strong contender in Michigan’s Third Congressional District. After securing victory in the Republican primary, DeBoer aims to reclaim the district for the GOP from incumbent Democrat, Rep. Hillary Scholten.

DeBoer shared with Fox News Digital that the local sentiment favors change. She believes voters desire representation aligning with West Michigan’s common-sense values. DeBoer, a mother of three, spent 30 years in western Michigan’s television industry, preparing her for this political challenge. The district, a Republican stronghold for decades, shifted in 2022 when Scholten took office.

Criticizing the Democratic Party, DeBoer remarks it has lost its essence, aligning with candidates she believes challenge America’s core strengths. Addressing Abdul El-Sayed’s recent Senate primary win, she argues against a shift towards a progressive Democratic agenda. She receives appreciation from locals for pledging to uphold West Michigan values, contrasting the Democratic stance.

El-Sayed, noted as a progressive, recently won a tightly contested primary against Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich. DeBoer argues her race symbolizes a choice for the nation’s future and freedoms. She highlights a contrast between Scholten’s moderate campaign image and her congressional voting record. DeBoer criticized Scholten’s votes, particularly against the SAVE America Act and in favor of allowing transgender athletes to compete on female sports teams.

DeBoer considers herself an outsider, yet aligns her positions closely with voter concerns. She pledges to bring practical values to Washington if elected. Key issues driving the race include affordability. Rising costs in groceries, energy, housing, and healthcare are significant voter concerns. Her campaign priorities include border security, expanding healthcare options, supporting energy reliability, and reducing small business regulations.

According to DeBoer, excessive federal expenditure needs trimming to alleviate the economic burden on Americans. She calls for cutting waste, fraud, and abuse in government that affect economic freedoms. Her goal is to “make America affordable again.” Fox News Digital reached out to Scholten’s campaign for comment.
