Texas Cooperates with ICE to Hold Murder Suspect

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has announced that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) requested Texas authorities to keep an El Salvadoran national in custody, without release, due to charges of murder related to two lethal shootings. This individual is in the country illegally.

Suspect Details

Jefferson Adonay Velasquez-Torres, 18, faces murder charges for an incident on April 27 outside a Houston nightclub that resulted in the death of Noah Ramirez, 27. Two other people were injured in the shooting, as reported by FOX 26 Houston.

Additional Charges

Velasquez-Torres was previously charged in a separate incident in June. He was implicated in a shooting at a Houston house party last August that killed Angel Garcia, 17. Another involved figure, Enrique Aguilar, 19, was also arrested for Garcia’s murder, according to FOX 26.

Further accusations against Velasquez-Torres include unlawfully carrying a weapon and aggravated robbery. He illegally entered the U.S. as a minor in 2014 during former President Barack Obama’s term and was released into the country.

Official Statement

Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis emphasized the gravity of Velasquez-Torres’s actions, stating, “This criminal illegal alien has been charged with two counts of murder after two fatal shootings in Houston.” She also highlighted the role of policies from the Obama Administration in his presence in the U.S.

Bis remarked, “ICE asked Texas officials not to release this individual without notifying ICE. Thankfully, Texas complies with our requests, ensuring public safety by preventing this threat from reaching the streets.”

Current Status

Velasquez-Torres remains in custody at the Harry County Jail, having been denied bond regarding the second shooting charges.
