Authorities successfully located two women and a 9-year-old who had disappeared while tubing on the Muskegon River in Michigan earlier this week. The trio was found safe Friday afternoon.
A Michigan State Police K9 team and state conservation officers located them at 4:36 p.m., about a mile away from a boat launch on the river. The state police expressed relief, stating, “This is the outcome everyone hoped for.” However, the exact relationship between the women, both 28, and the child remains unclear.
The statement did not provide additional details about their conditions or how they went missing.
A police vehicle and boat positioned near the Muskegon River were involved in the search. The trio was found approximately 11 miles from another boat launch, where a car connected to one of the women had been found with a broken window.
The father of one of the women discovered the vehicle, prompting a call to the authorities. The three had been missing for over 24 hours, with relatives unable to contact them. On Thursday, state police reported finding two tubes and footprints.
Nearly two dozen state police posts, along with various law enforcement agencies and government departments, contributed to the search efforts. Volunteers also played a role in locating the missing individuals.
