Tom Tiffany and Pilot Safe After Emergency Plane Landing in Lake

Wisconsin Republican gubernatorial candidate and U.S. Representative Tom Tiffany reported a close escape after the small plane he was in lost power and required an emergency water landing. The incident occurred on Saturday night as Tiffany and his pilot approached Wausau Downtown Airport in a four-seat Bonanza following his attendance at the La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner.

Tiffany shared that the plane lost power, prompting the pilot to make a swift decision for a water landing on Lake Wausau. Immediately after impact, they contacted emergency services, although the aircraft started filling with water before the rescuers arrived.

“As the plane began to submerge, we exited the aircraft and swam to a shallow area, where we waited until emergency responders reached us by boat,” Tiffany stated.

Both Tiffany and the pilot received treatment for minor injuries at Aspirus Wausau Hospital after being rescued and transported. In expressing gratitude, Tiffany commended the pilot, Wausau Fire Department, and first responders for their rapid response and aid.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to the pilot, the Wausau Fire Department, and all of the first responders who came to our aid so quickly,” he said. “They got us safely off the water and transported us to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where we received excellent care.”

Tiffany’s wife, Chris, joined him at the hospital, and he reflected on how precious life is in the wake of the frightening experience.

“God was watching over us tonight, and I am incredibly grateful to be here in the hospital with my wife, Chris, by my side,” he said. “An experience like this reminds you just how precious life is.”

Support and relief flooded social media after Tiffany shared his experience, with people expressing gratitude for his safety and sending prayers.

“My god! What an ordeal. Very grateful everyone is safe,” one person wrote.

“Prayers to you and everyone aboard that flight!” another person added. “So thankful you are all alive and able to see your loved ones.”

Tiffany, who currently represents Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, is vying for the governorship in the state’s upcoming election. The investigation into the cause of the power failure is ongoing.
