Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and CBS football analyst Tony Romo was arrested on Thursday night in Milwaukee. Authorities suspect him of intoxicated driving. Romo, aged 46, was stopped while driving southbound on Interstate 43 at approximately 6:18 p.m. CDT. According to records from the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s office, he did not perform well on standardized field sobriety tests.
Romo was booked for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated and released afterward. He is required to attend a court hearing on September 21. This date coincides with the Monday night of the NFL’s Week 2. Major games that weekend include the Pittsburgh Steelers facing the New England Patriots, the reigning AFC champions.
The arrest occurred only hours following Romo’s interview with WTMJ, an NBC affiliate TV station in Milwaukee. Romo played in the NFL for 13 seasons, all with the Dallas Cowboys, prior to joining CBS as a commentator.
As of 2017, Romo is a key member of CBS’s leading NFL broadcast team. He works with play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson. Romo has already called three Super Bowls by 2024.
It remains unclear as of Friday if Romo has retained a defense attorney for his legal proceedings.
