A recent Indiana University graduate, Brett Scrogham, aged 23, was tragically murdered on Thursday. Scrogham, an alumnus of Kelley School of Business Indianapolis, planned to attend an Indianapolis Indians baseball game with his family. He parked his car in a public garage downtown. Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot and saw someone fleeing the scene.

The police discovered Scrogham wounded. He succumbed to his injuries by Saturday, according to authorities. The event occurred on May 28, 2026, and he passed away on May 30, 2026.

Indianapolis authorities have not released a detailed description of the suspect. However, they informed Fox News Digital that significant progress has been made in the investigation.

“Today, I am saddened to learn of the passing of the victim of last week’s random act of violence. My prayers are with the family of this young man and all who knew him,” said Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett.

Scrogham had recently been honored as one of the top 100 undergraduate students at Indiana University. On LinkedIn, he expressed gratitude, writing, “Honored to be recognized among such great peers! I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by so much experience and knowledge at the Kelley School of Business.” He was working as a development analyst at a commercial real-estate firm.

A friend noted Scrogham’s exceptional intelligence, stating that he had a bright future, possibly leading a company within years. They recalled his vibrant presence at a friend’s wedding, where his dancing impressed many.

Scrogham’s death has intensified discussions about violent crime in Indianapolis. Mayor Hogsett emphasized that violence in the community is intolerable, stating that the police will persist in their efforts until the perpetrator is apprehended. He urged the community to assist with information that might aid the investigation.
