Travis Kelce Returns for Another Season, Contemplates Retirement

3 weeks ago 0

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce is back for another season. Many speculate this could be his last, including close friend Cris Carter. Carter, a legendary wide receiver, posted a photo with Kelce that stirred fans. “Know the goat is preparing for THE LAST DANCE. Next stop Canton/HOF,” Carter wrote. The photo showed Kelce at a workout alongside Carter and veteran trainers Andrew Spruill and Johnny Olsen.

Kelce faced a long decision-making process regarding his future. Ultimately, he signed a one-year, $12 million deal. This is part of a three-year, $57.735 million contract, allowing him to reassess each season. Kelce’s decision hinged on his health and physical condition. “If my body can heal up, rest up and I can feel confident that I can go out there and give it another 18-20/21 week run, I think I would do it in a heartbeat,” Kelce stated on “New Heights” prior to confirming his return. He emphasized finding how his body felt post-game was crucial to his decision.

Kelce has expressed his enduring love for football. “I’ve talked to a few people in the facility already, having my exit meetings and everything, they know where I stand at least right now. There’s a lot of love for the game that’s still there, and I don’t think I’ll ever lose that. It’s a tough thing to navigate,” he noted.

Kelce’s rise in popularity has also been fueled by his relationship with megastar Taylor Swift, making him a significant draw for the NFL and pop culture fans. Many anticipated his retirement, but he surprised by returning for a one-year contract, aiming to conclude his career on a high note. Despite the offensive struggles in 2025 and Patrick Mahomes’ injury, Kelce achieved 851 receiving yards and five touchdowns. While his trademark explosiveness has diminished, his reliable hands and chemistry with Mahomes remain invaluable to the Chiefs’ strategy.
