Trump Administration Alters Car Fuel Efficiency Standards

3 days ago 0

The Trump administration has amended the car fuel efficiency rules, which were aimed at making vehicles more fuel-efficient. The original standards, expected to achieve an average of 50.4 miles per gallon by 2031, have been reduced to 34.9 miles per gallon.

The administration claims the adjustment will lower the cost of new cars by approximately $1,300 on average. However, critics argue that the new rules could result in higher gasoline expenditures for car owners and exacerbate pollution and climate change.

The Biden administration had proposed an increase in fuel economy standards by 2 percent annually for model years 2027 through 2031, which was projected to save drivers over $600 in fuel costs over a vehicle’s lifespan.

President Trump announced the decision through a post on Truth Social, highlighting its benefits for American auto workers and car buyers.
