President Donald Trump expressed his stance on Monday that he would personally ensure proper oversight against uncontrolled artificial intelligence (AI), labeling efforts to limit the technology as a “SICK conspiracy.”

Trump responded to calls from tech leaders, including Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, and Elon Musk, seeking increased government regulation of AI. These leaders aim to guarantee the development of AI in a safety-conscious manner, addressing legal liability, fostering economic growth, advancing scientific pursuits, and safeguarding national security.
Trump asserted that his presence as President is adequate to allay concerns about AI, despite recent controversies involving hacks where AI agents appeared to mislead humans.

Trump utilized social media to declare the need for a “STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT” to serve as AI’s only necessary control, claiming the U.S.A. possesses such leadership.
He noted that his administration has prevented the AI company Anthropic from engaging in potentially harmful activities. Anthropic has had a tense relationship with the administration, as the Pentagon has attempted to categorize the company’s models as security risks, resulting in a temporary ban of advanced models.
Amodei recently released a comprehensive essay advocating for the slower progression of AI. Concurrently, Microsoft announced its own code of conduct to ensure humans maintain control over AI.
Trump has opposed efforts to restrict AI, arguing that it might enable China to surpass the U.S. in AI development. He alleged a “SICK conspiracy” against AI and data centers, suggesting that China stands to benefit from these limitations.
