Trump Bans CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from White House

2 weeks ago 0

President Donald Trump announced a ban on CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House. He made this announcement in a Truth Social post, citing the outlets’ ‘constant reporting’ of what he described as ‘fake news.’

During a press interaction in the Oval Office, Trump reiterated his stance. He referred to what he called ‘cumulative stories’ by the three media organizations over the years. ‘You get sick of it,’ Trump remarked.

Trump emphasized that he was not trying to prevent the press from fulfilling their duties. CNN has traditionally been part of a group of five networks, including Fox News, that travels with the president internationally. CNN was also selected to lead network pool coverage as Trump prepared to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the Republican governor of Arkansas and former White House press secretary, supported Trump’s stance on the matter. She dismissed claims that Trump’s actions oppose the First Amendment’s guarantee of a free press. ‘I think it’s hard for you to argue against a free press when you’re literally standing in the Oval Office asking questions of the president of the United States,’ she told reporters.

Previous attempts by Trump’s administration to ban media outlets and individual journalists have faced legal challenges. ‘I don’t think that a court should allow fake news to be written day, after day, after day. I think that somebody has a right to keep them away,’ Trump said.

CNN continues its live broadcasts from a media tent near the White House. However, a senior White House official informed CNN, MS NOW, and Politico that their journalists would be prohibited from the White House grounds starting Saturday.

In response, CNN stated its commitment to fair and accurate reporting and emphasized their right to report under the U.S. Constitution. They urged against any government interference in this right. Politico released a similar statement, affirming their dedication to covering the White House impartially and defending First Amendment rights.

A spokesperson for MS NOW declined to comment on the situation.
