President Donald Trump attended the Presidents Cup golf tournament at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois, on September 27, 2026. Amid this event, Trump commended UK law enforcement for arresting five men suspected of planning a terror attack on a US air base.
Trump expressed great satisfaction to reporters in Chicago, emphasizing the collaborative efforts between the US and Britain. He stated, “The arrest in the UK was fantastic. Working with Britain, it was an amazing job.” According to NewsNation’s Libbey Dean, the president mentioned that the federal government is investigating the men, who aimed to cause considerable damage.
“We had them under view for a long time and we got em,” Trump remarked. The arrests occurred at RAF Fairford, an air base owned by the UK and operated by the US. This base, located in Gloucestershire, southwest England, has been used by the US military to launch strikes against Iranian missile sites, as per agreements with former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
On the day of the arrests, London’s Metropolitan Police reported receiving a call about three suspicious vehicles traveling towards the base early in the morning. The nationalities of those arrested remain undisclosed.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham thanked various entities for their role in ensuring public safety. These included Gloucestershire Police, Counter Terrorism Policing UK, and the UK armed forces. He expressed gratitude towards residents asked to leave their homes for precautionary checks. Burnham assured the public of their safety, emphasizing the government’s commitment to protecting communities.
“The safety and security of the public is our first priority, and I want people to know that we will always take every step necessary to protect our communities and keep our country safe,” Burnham stated.
He urged the public not to speculate until authorities establish all facts. This emphasis on public safety highlights the seriousness of the incident and the response efforts involved.
