President Trump will not attend the 25th anniversary ceremony at Ground Zero, marking the September 11 terror attacks. Reports suggest his absence is due to being denied an opportunity to speak at the event.
Instead, Trump is expected to participate in a 9/11 ceremony at the Pentagon. There, he is scheduled to deliver a speech. Vice President JD Vance will stand in for Trump at the New York event.
The decision to sidestep the main national ceremony for the devastating attacks came after Trump’s request to speak was turned down. Leaders at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum declined his request to maintain a nonpartisan atmosphere. This independence from political influence has been a tradition for over ten years.
Flowers are traditionally placed on victims’ names at the Memorial, providing a solemn tribute. Alongside Vance, New York City Mayor Mamdani, ex-Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama are slated to attend the Ground Zero event.
Trump’s speech at the Pentagon will occur shortly after his attendance at a Republican midterm political convention in Dallas on September 9 and 10. This suggests that his address could include political implications.
Vice President JD Vance’s presence is noteworthy. Trump plans to travel promptly to Ireland subsequently for the Irish Open golf tournament at one of his resorts.
In 2024, Trump attended the Ground Zero memorial with Vance, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris during the presidential campaign’s final phase. No speeches were delivered then. However, Trump did visit a fire station and meet with FDNY firefighters afterwards.
