Mulvaney remarked in a TikTok post, “Maybe being publicly mocked and criticized by this administration is actually the greatest compliment of all.” The comment refers to associations with empathetic figures worldwide.

Mulvaney, known for their social media presence and recognition as a transgender figure in the U.S., had stepped back from the spotlight following an advertising controversy involving Bud Light. Mulvaney described the backlash against Bud Light due to the promotion as a psychological challenge.

At the dinner, Trump commented on Kaitlan Collins, saying, “I thought Kaitlan Collins had really made it big with a major new sponsorship, but then I informed her that it wasn’t her on the Bud Light can, it was Dylan Mulvaney.” The reference points to Bud Light’s partnership with Mulvaney for the March Madness campaign, which led to a consumer boycott and a significant financial loss for Anheuser-Busch.

Trump questioned the authenticity of her award while noting her lack of smiles, saying, “Smile. You have a nice position. You’re at CNN — fake news. You should be a happy person.”

Collins responded subtly via Instagram, sharing a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt: “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

Following Trump’s remarks, CNN’s public relations team affirmed support for its journalists in a statement by Chairman and CEO Mark Thompson, emphasizing the integrity and importance of fair journalism.
