TSA officers recently encountered an unexpected discovery in a passenger’s checked bag after an Xbox triggered an alarm. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reported the incident, which took place at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in New York City.
During the screening process, TSA Officer Ashley Leo noticed an alarm was activated on an Xbox gaming system. Leo redirected the bag to the checked baggage resolution area where Supervisory Transportation Security Officer (STSO) Christopher Ramos was stationed.
Upon inspection, Ramos found fake IDs next to the Xbox, which had caused the alarm. He discovered various driver’s licenses featuring differing birth dates and class types, yet each had the same photograph.
“I noticed various driver’s licenses with different dates of birth and different class types, but all with the same photograph,” Ramos stated.
The situation led to the arrest of a passenger at LaGuardia Airport. After TSA management, airport officials, and Port Authority police verified the IDs were fraudulent, the passenger was apprehended just before boarding their flight.
TSA LGA Federal Security Director John Essig commended Ramos for his adherence to standard procedures and vigilance, highlighting the importance of identifying fraudulent IDs to maintain the safety of secure airport areas.
“Identifying fraudulent IDs is an important part of TSA’s layered security approach,” Essig mentioned. “It ensures that individuals in secure areas are who they claim to be.”
A series of unusual finds by TSA officers have occurred across the nation recently. At Dallas Love Field Airport in Texas, a pocketknife disguised in a toothpaste tube was discovered, while Tampa International Airport in Florida reported a 4-inch double-edged knife hidden in a flashlight resembling a baseball bat. These instances underline the TSA’s crucial role in safeguarding airport security.
