Twitch Streamer Hasan Piker Defends Controversial Comments on Israel and Hamas

Hasan Piker, a far-left Twitch streamer, has stirred controversy with his comments about Israel and Hamas. In an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Piker defended his statement calling Hamas ‘a thousand times better than the fascist settler colonial apartheid state’ of Israel. He admitted his rhetoric was ‘intentionally provocative’ and aimed to force people to rethink their perspectives.

Piker initially posted his remarks on social media in January and has since reiterated his stance despite backlash. He acknowledged that using less extreme language could alienate fewer people but added that such an approach was not his style.

Discussing his intentions, Piker explained, ‘I’m not interested in the many bad things Hamas has done. I’m trying to get people to understand why someone becomes Hamas.’ He emphasized that Palestinians have endured a harsh occupation for 75 years and urged people to empathize with their situation.

Rolling Stone Magazine highlighted that the Democratic Party’s views aligned more favorably towards Palestinians than Israelis. This finding suggests that Piker’s opinions might be more widespread than initially believed. Piker humorously remarked that his backlash resulted from ‘having the correct position too early.’

Despite widespread criticism, Piker remains unapologetic about his comments. ‘In some ways it is a performance. But existence is a performance,’ he noted, stressing that his approach aims to engage and challenge audiences.

Fox News Digital reached out to Piker for further comment. In a separate appearance on ‘Pod Save America,’ Piker reiterated his stance, describing himself as a ‘harm-reduction voter.’ He expressed willingness to vote for Hamas over Israel, framing his choice in terms of paramilitary and political dynamics.

Piker addressed his position in a CNN interview, clarifying that he does not support all of Hamas’ actions. He insisted Palestinians possess an internationally recognized right to resist militarily, acknowledging that violations, including war crimes, occur.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) previously condemned Piker’s statements. A spokesperson criticized Piker for expressing support for Hamas on a mainstream platform, pointing out the lack of response from Democratic officials.
