U.S. Faces Defeat and Lessons in 2026 Solheim Cup

2 weeks ago 0

The U.S. team learned a vital lesson during their Solheim Cup defeat to Europe. Not everything belongs on social media. After trailing 7-5 in morning foursomes, the Americans fought back in the afternoon fourball matches.

They lost the first fourball match. However, they clinched the last three, with Jennifer Kupcho and Lindy Duncan shining in the anchor match. They overcame a 2-down deficit against Carlota Ciganda and Celine Boutier. Kupcho sunk a 90-foot putt on the 17th hole and another long putt on the 18th. This resulted in a full point, tying the teams at 8-8 before Sunday’s singles.

The team’s celebration reflected this achievement. Photos of captain Angela Stanford with a case of beer surfaced on the team’s official X account. This caught the attention of Team Europe, who celebrated aggressively after their victory on Sunday.

The worst thing I could have done is go in there and be like, ‘OK, y’all, come off this high,’

said Stanford. You don’t want to take away from those moments. We’re never going to see anything like that again.

Despite the loss, Stanford defended the team’s decision to celebrate after Saturday’s success. On Sunday, Europe won seven of twelve singles matches, securing the Solheim Cup. European players, led by Dame Laura Davies, celebrated with their own bus chants, underlining their victory.

The European team celebrated their 15-13 win, marking their dominance in the recent competitions. They have now won or retained the Solheim Cup in four of the last five tournaments. The last American victory on European soil was in 2015 in Germany.
