U.S. Military Identifies Soldiers Killed in Conflict with Iran

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military identified two soldiers killed in action last week in the context of the ongoing conflict with Iran. The Defense Department announced that 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, died in Jordan. They were part of a mission against the Islamic State. Details on how they were killed are unclear.

On Saturday, the U.S. Central Command confirmed that these service members died in Jordan during defense actions against Iranian missile and drone assaults. The ongoing fight has claimed the lives of 17 U.S. personnel according to military reports.

American troops face significant risks even when not directly on Iranian soil. The deployment across the Middle East exposes them to various threats including drones and ballistic missiles. The escalation followed the collapse of peace negotiations between the involved parties.

Earlier, President Donald Trump stated that the military actions are crucial to prevent Iran’s nuclear armament.

Early Conflict Casualties

The hostilities began on February 28. An initial Iranian drone strike on a civilian port in Kuwait resulted in the deaths of six U.S. soldiers. These were part of a supply unit from Iowa.

Subsequently, a seventh soldier succumbed to injuries following an attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia on March 1.

Additional U.S. military operations targeting Iran in March saw the loss of six personnel when a KC-135 aircraft crashed in Iraq. U.S. Central Command indicated the incident involved another aircraft.

Moreover, a Navy pilot died after a helicopter crash in the Arabian Sea. Initially, this was described as an emergency landing devoid of hostile engagement.

Drone and Missile Threats Persist

On Saturday, yet another American soldier perished in northern Iraq during the detonation of remaining ordnance from an Iranian drone. Another service member was injured but is under medical care.

Iranian casualties also mount, with authorities reporting at least 50 deaths and over 500 injuries in recent U.S. strikes. Operations in regions such as the Gulf, Israel, and Lebanon have also resulted in losses among foreign workers and others.
