U.S. Mint Releases $1 Commemorative Coins Featuring Donald Trump

4 weeks ago 0

Starting Wednesday at noon ET, the U.S. Mint will begin the sale of gold-colored $1 coins that display the likeness of President Donald Trump. These coins are offered at prices ranging from approximately $1.55 to $2.44 each.

The obverse side of each coin presents a rendering of Mr. Trump’s face, alongside inscriptions that include “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and “1776 ~ 2026.” On the reverse side, the presidential seal appears, depicting an eagle with an olive branch and a bundle of arrows. This side also features the inscription “250,” symbolizing the 250th anniversary of the United States, or the semiquincentennial.

The coin pricing is determined by quantity, with a 25-coin roll priced at $61, and a 100-coin bag priced at $154.50. These coins are set for sale on September 2 and intend to mark the nation’s significant 250th anniversary.

“These special circulating dollar coins bring together everyday American coinage and a unique anniversary design,” the U.S. Mint stated. “They are meant to be a standout addition to modern collections.”

Despite existing U.S. regulations that only allow deceased individuals on currency, the Trump administration refers to a 2020 law permitting new coin designs to commemorate the country’s 250th anniversary. Consequently, Trump’s image is included on these coins.

While the coins can be utilized as legal tender, they are also promoted as collectibles. Though they have a gold-colored appearance, they consist primarily of copper, with smaller proportions of zinc, manganese, and nickel. These coins do not contain any actual gold.

Additionally, the U.S. Mint is randomly adding 250,000 special-issue $1 Trump coins bearing a “July 4th” privy mark, available in the bags and rolls for purchase on its website.
