Ukrainian prosecutors have shared video footage of a bombing in Monaco that severely injured businessman Vadym Yermolaiev and his family. The June 30 attack deeply unsettled the small but wealthy Mediterranean principality. The motive for the bombing remains unclear. Investigations are ongoing in Monaco, France, and Ukraine, with involvement from Interpol.
Anastasiia Berezovska, believed to be responsible for the attack, was found dead in Ukraine days later. A Ukrainian military intelligence officer confessed to killing her, asserting he acted independently without orders from his superiors, according to Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU).
The video, given to The Associated Press, shows a person in a hat placing an object at a building’s entrance before walking away. In the background, a man, woman, and child walk uphill. They approach the entrance as an explosion is heard, causing the video to blur.
Ukrainian prosecutor Ruslan Kravchenko mentioned on Telegram that the footage came from a surveillance camera installed by those responsible for the attack. Initially erased, SBU specialists managed to restore the images. Monaco’s prosecution has not commented on the video or the investigation’s status.
Yermolaiev’s attorneys issued a letter accusing Ukrainian security services of orchestrating the explosion and requested protection for his family. In the letter, shared with French media, Yermolaiev alleged Ukraine’s military intelligence attempted to assassinate his family. He remains hospitalized, describing his partner Anna’s injuries as ‘irreversible,’ while his 13-year-old son suffered burns and fractures.
Unusually, the letter thanks Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for taking personal interest in the case and offering unspecified aid, as reported by French media. Yermolaiev faced sanctions from Zelenskyy’s government in 2023 over Russian connections and claimed to have renounced his Ukrainian citizenship. Zelenskyy has not commented on possible assistance in the case.
