An unidentified object crashed and exploded in Poland after a night marked by Russia’s long-range attacks on Ukraine. Polish police reported the object fell near Tarnawa-Kolonia in Lublin province.
Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the incident took place during a Russian missile onslaught on western Ukraine, noting the violation of Polish airspace. The identity of the object, whether a Russian missile or not, remains unclear.
The Polish army observed at least a dozen missiles over western Ukraine, nearing Polish airspace. Russia’s Ministry of Defense confirmed launching strikes using “long-range precision weapons from land, air, and sea,” supported by attack drones on Ukrainian military sites.
Poland, a NATO member, could invoke Article 5, which treats an attack on one member as an attack on all. Russian drones and missiles have previously breached NATO territory during the ongoing Ukraine war. This latest incident may challenge the alliance’s collective defense commitment.
