Usha Vance Discusses Life with Fourth Child and Her Podcast

In her first interview since welcoming her fourth child with Vice President JD Vance, Usha Vance shared her experiences and family dynamic during a conversation with Fox News Digital on August 4. The interview coincided with the release of a new episode of her podcast, “Storytime with the Second Lady.” Speaking from the Vice President’s Residence, Usha described the joy of motherhood again, saying, “It’s been really lovely so far.”

She explained, “One of the beautiful things is how excited my older kids are about their new brother. They’re always eager to hold him, help with diaper and clothing changes, and entertain him.” She mentioned how their needs align well with the new baby’s.

The Vance family announced the arrival of their son, Alec Neel Vance, on July 20, with a statement expressing their happiness. A family photo taken on July 22 showed JD, Usha, and their children Ewan, Vivek, Mirabel, and baby Alec at the Vice President’s Residence.

During the interview, Mrs. Vance emphasized the importance of spending one-on-one time with each child. She shared an example, saying, “For instance, we go out every day. Yesterday, my middle child and I went to a bookstore, had lunch, and made a store return. It was really special.” She acknowledged potential challenges but noted, “For now, they seem to be thriving.”

Talking about the adjustment to four children, Usha stated, “Initially, I had some concerns about changing our family’s dynamic, but now, I’m glad we embraced this new chapter. It’s brought more happiness.”

Usha continues to expand her podcast, “Storytime with the Second Lady.” The latest episode features author Jackie Oshry reading a children’s book about summer camp. The podcast aims to inspire children to read and create stories. “We highlight authors to show children that they can write their own stories,” Usha explained.

She chose literacy as a key initiative to make “a concrete change” while serving as second lady. Usha encourages children in grades K-8 to join the White House Summer Reading Challenge, where reading 12 books can earn prizes, including a White House visit.

As summer ends, the Vance family is preparing for the school year by organizing supplies, clothes, and enjoying outdoor activities. “We make back-to-school preparations a celebration,” Usha said.

President Donald Trump congratulated the Vance family on Truth Social after Alec’s birth, describing him as “a perfect baby boy for the wonderful Vance family.”
