Voter Fraud Probe and Charges
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has charged 16 individuals across multiple states for alleged illegal voting and voter registration crimes. These accusations involve noncitizens voting in federal elections and making false claims of U.S. citizenship to register or vote. The DOJ discovered related crimes such as passport and identification fraud, wire fraud, and firearm offenses during their investigation.
Mexican national Monica Carzoli was arrested for voting in the November 2024 election. Analiea Eccles, a Venezuelan national and DACA recipient, voted nine times between 2008 and 2024. Avila Gomez, residing in Idaho, faces charges of falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to register and vote, alongside other offenses.
The DOJ has charged 50 non-citizens under the Trump administration for illegal voting, emphasizing America’s elections are reserved for citizens.
Broader Investigation and Arrests
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin reported over 1,620 open cases and 151 arrests related to voter fraud. More than 300,000 suspected cases are under scrutiny, indicating a growing concern for election integrity. Mullin stressed the impact of illegal voting on legitimate votes and reaffirmed the commitment to protect American communities by targeting high-risk individuals.
The DOJ clarified that charges are accusations and defendants are assumed innocent until proven guilty.
