Vice President JD Vance recently shared his thoughts with podcaster Joe Rogan on California’s condition under Governor Gavin Newsom. Vance compared parts of the state to a ‘Third World country,’ drawing parallels to his experiences visiting the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
On a visit to Los Angeles, Vance was struck by the contrast between wealthy areas and neighborhoods facing significant challenges. He recounted that the experience brought to mind a situation where there is high security and wealth within, but surrounding areas suffer from poverty and hardship.
Vance expressed deep concern about California’s decline, especially in Los Angeles, a city known for its cultural significance and beautiful architecture. He frequently visits the state, as his wife, Usha, hails from southern California. Vance mentioned his ‘heartbreak’ over the changes he observes each time he visits.
Rogan, who previously lived in California, highlighted similar concerns. He discussed the struggles some face in selling their homes as they plan to leave the state. Rogan criticized Newsom’s portrayal of California’s economic success, emphasizing that such statistics existed before Newsom’s term.
The conversation touched on the growing issue of homeless encampments in Los Angeles, specifically skid row. Rogan noted its expansion, claiming it has grown by several blocks.
