A promising lacrosse player from Washington, Eliot Abramson, passed away following a tragic incident during a game. Abramson, a 17-year-old midfielder at Mercer Island High School near Seattle, was part of a college recruiting showcase on June 1 when the accident occurred.
Eliot Abramson, who stood 6 feet 2 inches, was a sophomore deeply involved in lacrosse from his early school years. During the game, he was struck by a rapidly moving lacrosse ball at the base of his neck. The ball found its way beneath his helmet, leading to immediate unconsciousness as witnesses watched him collapse.
Abramson was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for urgent surgery and spent almost a week in intensive care. Sadly, school officials and family announced his death on June 7.
“While Eliot’s time on earth will end way too soon, we are comforted that he will be in heaven with his dad, making him laugh, playing music with his smile lighting up the room. We’re sure he’ll be doing ‘wall ball’ in the sky and rooting for all his friends,” shared his mother, Jessica Abramson-Lott, in a social media tribute.
Eliot is reunited with his biological father, Josef Abramson, who passed away when Eliot was just three years old. This incident mirrors a previous tragedy where 16-year-old Ohio lacrosse player Dylan Veselic lost his life from a similar injury.
