The Chicago White Sox claimed victory in a tightly contested Game 2 of the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Guardians, held at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Braden Montgomery, the White Sox’s right fielder, took center stage in the sixth inning. With runners on second and third, and the Sox trailing by a run, Montgomery delivered a crucial two-run double to right field. This pivotal moment put the Sox ahead, propelling them to a 4-3 win. Montgomery scored later in the inning due to Chase Meidroth’s single, maintaining the Sox’s lead.

Manager Will Venable commended his team’s unwavering spirit, emphasizing their determination to fight through all nine innings. This mentality was crucial as the Sox overcame an early deficit. The Guardians initially gained the upper hand when Nathaniel Lowe’s bouncer enabled José Ramírez to score, placing Cleveland ahead 2-0.

Offensively, the White Sox gained momentum in the fourth inning. Kyle Teel secured the team’s first hit against Guardians’ starter Gavin Williams. Miguel Vargas walked, setting the stage for Munetaka Murakami. Despite falling behind 0-2, Murakami achieved a full count and then singled, allowing Teel to score.

Sean Burke significantly contributed to the White Sox’s pitching efforts, delivering an impressive performance by pitching 5 1/3 innings while conceding only one run and striking out six. Grant Taylor was crucial in sealing the victory, managing to secure the final four outs. A tense moment unfolded in the eighth when Jo Adell hit a triple to score, tightening the game to 4-3. However, Taylor, aided by a remarkable catch from Brenton Doyle, ensured no further runs.

Venable highlighted the importance of fan support during the series, acknowledging the energy the fans provided both on the road and at home. With this win, the Sox move closer to closing out the series, returning to their home turf for Game 3, which is set for 3 p.m. Wednesday at Rate Field.
