Chicago White Sox’s Recent Trades

The Chicago White Sox recently made two trades this month. However, neither trade has made an immediate impact on the major-league roster yet. With the trade deadline approaching on Monday, there is still time to make moves. The Sox, currently holding a 1½-game lead in the American League Central before Wednesday’s game against the New York Yankees at Rate Field, are in a position to be buyers.

Manager Will Venable expressed confidence in general manager Chris Getz and his team. “I expect the deadline to come and go, and Chris and the group to do everything they can to take advantage of the opportunity to make our team better,” Venable said Wednesday. He emphasized Getz’s commitment to improving the team, stating, “I don’t know what that means, but I know that he’s grinding every single day.”

Potential Target Areas for the Sox

Catcher

The performances from the Sox’s catchers have lacked impact due to injuries. Kyle Teel, who is on the IL with a left ankle sprain, has played only 19 games, logging a .190 average with two home runs and 14 RBIs. Edgar Quero and Drew Romo have stepped in for the majority of the season but haven’t been much more productive. Quero holds a .181 average, while Romo has a .137 average.

The trade market for catchers has been affected by Shea Langeliers’ knee injury. Available catchers include Tyler Stephenson of the Cincinnati Reds and Jonah Heim from the Athletics. Stephenson is batting .248 with eight home runs and 29 RBIs, while Heim has a .220 average with ten home runs and 33 RBIs.

Starting Pitchers

The White Sox rotation is dealing with increasing innings. Davis Martin has accumulated 111 innings, while Sean Burke is at 118 1/3 innings. Anthony Kay’s innings total is 103 2/3. Veteran Erick Fedde and rookie Noah Schultz complete the rotation.

The Sox are often linked to reports of seeking pitching depth. Names such as Reid Detmers from the Angels and Clay Holmes from the Mets are mentioned. Detmers carries a 4.03 ERA across 22 starts, while Holmes has returned from injury with a 2.39 ERA.

Relief Pitchers

The Sox’s bullpen has delivered a solid performance since June 23, ranking fourth-best in the majors with a 2.70 ERA. Their relievers have allowed 38 earned runs in 126 2/3 innings, striking out 140 while limiting opponents to a .203 average.

Relying partly on their farm system, prospects like Tanner McDougal and newly acquired José Urquidy are being monitored for bullpen roles. The Sox have been mentioned in relation to potential trades for closing pitchers, with Mason Miller from the Padres emerging as a significant option.
