The Chicago White Sox have shown marked improvement at the plate in 2026, under the guidance of Director of Hitting Ryan Fuller. A key statistic is their average of 4.78 runs per game, leading the American League, up from last year’s 3.99 runs. Fuller emphasized the program’s effective execution at the major league level, bringing a tangible identity to White Sox hitters.
Currently leading the AL Central, the team continues to aim for postseason success. Noteworthy are their 181 home runs, ranking third in the league. The team has hit 50 home runs since July, with players like Munetaka Murakami, Colson Montgomery, and Miguel Vargas each tallying 29 home runs this season.
Murakami faces challenges but shows patience with a recent stretch of 12 walks and 22 strikeouts over 13 games. Fuller remains confident in his return to form. Manager Will Venable commented on Murakami’s powerful swings, indicating his potential to bounce back without pressure.
Montgomery encounters second-half struggles, hitting .207 since the All-Star break, yet demonstrates improvement with recent multi-hit games. Fuller describes Montgomery’s self-awareness and readiness to make adjustments, emphasizing straightforward communication to tackle issues.
Outfielder Tristan Peters stands out with a .320 average in August, including hitting home runs in five consecutive games, tying a franchise record. Fuller highlights Peters’ resilience in overcoming slumps, reverting to his first-half form as an All-Star.
Vargas consistently excels, reaching base safely in 18 straight games with a .381/.530/.635 slash line, leading the AL with 93 runs. Fuller identifies three key skills—decisions, contact, and damage—that Vargas has honed, resulting in exceptional results this season.
“We always talk about the three skills we value: decisions, contact, damage,” Fuller said. “For Vargas, it’s all three skills.”
In other team news, the Sox reinstated pitcher Davis Martin from the injured list. Martin, who suffered a blister on his finger, was set to start against the Astros. In the corresponding move, Tanner McDougal was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte, having been recalled without pitching in a recent win.
