Will Levis Looks to Revive NFL Career with the New York Jets

1 week ago 0

Will Levis is gearing up for another shot in the NFL. After his stint with the Tennessee Titans fell short, he aims to rebuild his career. Now, he has a new opportunity with the New York Jets.

Recently, reports confirmed that Levis joined the Jets’ practice squad. In a corresponding move, the team released Bailey Zappe. This transition does not imply replacing Geno Smith, the current starting quarterback for the Jets. However, it provides depth behind Smith, with rookie Cade Klubnik also in the mix.

Levis brings both experience and potential to the table. Often recognized for his intriguing talent, he initially entered the NFL as one of the 2023 draft’s notable prospects. The Kentucky standout was selected 33rd overall in the second round, although he had hoped for a first-round selection.

His debut showed promise as he threw four touchdowns during a win against Atlanta. Yet, an ankle injury interrupted his rookie season, and he could not fully recover. Levis ended the season with glimpses of strong arm capabilities, leaving the Titans hopeful he might be a long-term asset.

However, the optimism surrounding Levis shifted during the 2024 season. Issues with turnovers, sacks, and consistency became evident. He managed 13 touchdown passes but balanced this with 12 interceptions. This was not enough to significantly uplift the Titans, who suffered a 2-10 record when he started. A right shoulder injury later required surgery, forcing him to sit out the entire 2025 season. The Titans then drafted Cam Ward first overall in 2025, effectively ending Levis’ tenure with the team.

Levis faces a critical moment in his career. At 27, he has ample time to refine his skills.

The New York Jets provide experienced coaching to aid Levis’ development. Offensive coordinator Frank Reich, known for coaching Peyton Manning during his MVP run, brings valuable mentorship. Reich has an established history coaching quarterbacks like Philip Rivers and Andrew Luck. Meanwhile, Jets quarterback coach Bill Musgrave has guided Matt Ryan and Derek Carr in their successful careers.

Levis does not necessarily represent the Jets’ future quarterback. However, the opportunity to gain from seasoned coaches is invaluable. Levis must now demonstrate improvement in decision-making and health to align with his physical talents.

His journey in the NFL continues as he joins the Jets, equipped with lessons from past experiences. This could be a turning point in his career, as he aims to fulfill his potential.
