Yellowstone Bison Attack Leaves Man Injured, But No Actions Against Animal

Recent reports confirmed the bison involved in a serious incident at Yellowstone National Park will not be euthanized. Despite the event going viral, park officials stated the wild animal will continue to roam the park.

According to TMZ, Yellowstone officials decided on ‘no management action’ against the bison. The decision follows the bison’s attack on Carl Isom-McDaniel, resulting in multiple broken bones that required surgery.

The dramatic event, caught by wildlife photographer Mike MacLeod, showed the bison lifting McDaniel into the air. MacLeod initially feared the bison might further harm the injured grandfather and stopped filming to assist in deterring the animal.

The bison that injured a man at Yellowstone will remain in the park despite public concern.

Neither McDaniel nor his grandson, who was with him, seemed to provoke the animal. MacLeod noted that the bison had previously charged a group of teenagers before encountering McDaniel and his grandson at a campground.

Witnesses, including MacLeod, described how the pair noticed the bison’s agitation and attempted to distance themselves. However, the bison’s focus remained, leading to the unfortunate encounter.

After the attack, McDaniel underwent surgery and is now in recovery. His first concern was for his grandson’s safety, as recounted by MacLeod. Fortunately, the grandson was unharmed.

Yellowstone advisories stress the importance of maintaining a safe distance of at least 25 yards from bison. These animals can weigh up to 2,000 pounds and reach speeds of 30 mph. Bull bison, in particular, are known to be more aggressive during mating season.
