Jed York, owner of the San Francisco 49ers, was arrested in Ohio and faced misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. Initially charged with engaging in prostitution, the charges were amended by prosecutors to disorderly conduct. The charge of possessing criminal tools stemmed from York’s use of his phone to reply to an undercover online prostitution advertisement.
York was apprehended in a mobile home community in East Palestine, Ohio, near Youngstown where he was born. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond. Following a no contest plea, he was sentenced to one day in jail for both offenses, concurrently. Credited with time served, York also received a $1,150 fine.
Court documents indicate York’s cellphone was returned, and $160 seized during his arrest was allocated to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force under the plea agreement. York completed an online course as part of the settlement. According to Columbiana County Prosecutor Vito Abruzzino, such cases often conclude with plea agreements that consider specifics of the incident, evidence, the defendant’s criminal history, and judicial decisions.
The NFL is reviewing the incident under its personal conduct policy, which includes possible fines or suspensions for owners. Previously, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft faced similar circumstances when he was arrested in Florida in 2019, though charges were dropped following a court ruling. The 49ers stated they would make no further comments, considering the matter resolved legally.
York assumed control of the 49ers’ daily operations from his parents in 2008, becoming the principal owner in 2024. Under his leadership, the 49ers have been consistent competitors since the hiring of coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch in 2017. The team has made three Super Bowl appearances during York’s tenure, though they were runners-up in all instances.
York also led the construction of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, which became the team’s home in 2014. The venue has hosted major events, including two Super Bowls, a World Cup, and a College Football Playoff title game.
