The investigation into the death of professional wrestling icon Hulk Hogan, real name Terry Bollea, has been officially closed. Florida police confirmed that Hogan died of natural causes last year at age 71.
The Clearwater Police Department released a comprehensive 72-page report detailing the investigation. This included a thorough examination of statements, medical records, surveillance footage, and a visual inspection of Hogan’s body. The report stated, “There has been no evidence to indicate the death of Terry Bollea was anything other than natural.”
At the time of his death on July 24, Hogan was at home with his wife, Sky Daily Hogan, a home health aide, and an occupational therapist. When Hogan stopped breathing, his wife called 911. The group performed CPR until emergency services arrived. Family members revealed Hogan had been battling several health issues in the weeks prior, including leukemia, an irregular heart rhythm, pneumonia, and kidney failure.
Initial remarks by the occupational therapist led to speculation about a possible link to nerve damage from a recent surgery. However, he later clarified that his comments were made under stress. The local medical examiner determined Hogan suffered a heart attack and decided against a full autopsy. A family-commissioned private autopsy supported this conclusion, finding no evidence of trauma or toxicological factors.
Hogan was widely recognized as a pivotal figure in the WWE. He gained fame for his remarkable persona and sport achievements. Hogan was the main draw for the inaugural WrestleMania in 1985 and remained a hallmark of wrestling for years, competing against names like Andre The Giant and Randy Savage.
Throughout his career, Hogan secured at least six WWE championships and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005. Although removed in 2015 over recorded racial slurs, he was later reinstated in 2018 after apologizing.
A private funeral service honoring Hogan was held in Largo, Florida, several weeks following his passing.
