Chicago police responded to a shooting incident in the Uptown neighborhood on Monday night, resulting in the death of a 63-year-old man. The events unfolded shortly before 8:30 p.m., as officers on patrol responded to a call about gunfire in the area.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim and a known individual engaged in an argument. During the dispute, the assailant produced a weapon and fired multiple times, striking the victim repeatedly. Emergency responders transported the injured man to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
The suspect fled the scene, heading north on Clark Street’s 4800 block. Officers pursued the individual on foot and eventually confronted him on Argyle Street. At this point, the suspect allegedly pointed the weapon at the officers.
In response, officers discharged their firearms, hitting the suspect. Law enforcement provided medical assistance immediately at the scene. Paramedics transported the gunman to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he remains in critical condition.
Police recovered a firearm at the scene of the confrontation. Additionally, three officers received medical evaluations at a nearby hospital as a precaution following the incident.
The Chicago Police Investigative Response Team, along with the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, have been informed of the shooting. As standard procedure, the officers involved will assume administrative duties for at least 30 days.
