Details regarding the cause and manner of Moore’s death are currently unavailable. The Lexington County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy for Saturday. Further information is expected to be provided by Monday.
Elena Katherine Moore’s remains were located on Wednesday afternoon near a gym in Lexington. She had been last seen leaving this location on June 11. Lexington has a population of about 23,000 and is situated to the west of Columbia.
Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green mentioned that a preliminary identification was made based on a description of her clothing. News coverage reportedly led to a tip that assisted in finding her body.
Green did not disclose whether any foul play is suspected in her disappearance. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is handling the investigation. As of Friday night, a spokesperson from the department did not respond to requests for comments.
