Spencer Leak Jr., a noted Chicago funeral director, passed away in May at the age of 56. He was known for providing compassionate services at his family’s funeral home, including managing the service for Rev. Jesse Jackson, a prominent civil rights leader.

In his early morning hours, around 1:30 a.m., Spencer received a message about Jesse Jackson’s passing. Jackson, well-known for his efforts in building a diverse coalition and for his presidential campaigns, died at the age of 84.

Spencer Leak Jr. was also recognized for his support to families facing financial difficulties, ensuring they could still honor their loved ones.

Acknowledged for his efforts, Spencer Leak Jr. testified in 2009 at a congressional hearing about cemeteries and funeral services, signifying his commitment to the profession.
