Rod Stewart, the 81-year-old musician, encountered a health scare during a performance on Friday at the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre in West Valley City, Utah. Midway through the concert, Stewart appeared to slow down, leaning heavily on equipment while attempting to continue his performance.
According to a video shared by TMZ, Stewart gestured towards a group of people backstage who came to his aid. A woman handed him an oxygen tank, while another applied a cold compress to his neck. Stewart addressed the audience, stating through the microphone, “The show must go on,” acknowledging that he “nearly fainted.” A representative for Stewart has not provided a comment regarding the incident.
Last month, Stewart canceled two Las Vegas shows just hours before they were set to begin. Originally scheduled to perform at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on May 29 and 30, the shows were called off following medical advice. Stewart’s representative relayed his apologies to fans and explained that he was on vocal rest due to a sinus infection, with plans to resume performances on June 2.
Further cancellations occurred in California this month. Stewart expressed his disappointment via Instagram Stories, noting his efforts to perform were in vain as his voice had not recovered. Despite feeling better post-treatment, Stewart promised fans his commitment to rescheduling.
Controversy arose after photos and videos showed Stewart attending a soccer match with his sons in Boston. Fans criticized the discrepancies, questioning his ability to travel while canceling concerts. Stewart stands firm on his intent to continue performing, stating any large-scale tour retirement plans would not impact his love for music or smaller performances.
