A woman named Michelle Zajko, linked to the unique Zizians group, faces charges for murdering her parents in Pennsylvania on her 30th birthday. Delaware County District Attorney Tanner Rouse claims Zajko was involved in the murders of Rita and Richard Zajko, with investigators relying on neighbor’s video footage, ballistics, and cellphone records as evidence.
The tragic incident occurred on New Year’s Eve 2022 in her childhood playroom. A doorbell camera recorded two people approaching the house, with voices yelling, “Mom!” and “Oh my God!” Although no weapon has been discovered, Zajko reportedly left a list of mistakes, such as leaving shell casings behind. These casings matched ammunition at her Vermont home and a nearby firing range.
Zajko, held on other charges in Maryland since February 2025, now faces murder, burglary, and conspiracy charges. She maintains her innocence, implying in court filings that her father killed her mother before turning the gun on himself. In an April 2025 “Open Letter to the World” shared through her attorney, she denied involvement.
The deaths of the Zajkos are among multiple murders linked to Zizians, known for shared radical beliefs about veganism, animal rights, gender identity, and AI. Investigators have connected the group to several other deaths, including in Vermont and California.
Currently, no attorney listed represents Zajko in the Pennsylvania case. Her attorney in Maryland remained unreachable, while the Delaware County Public Defender’s office refrained from commenting.
In 2025, Zajko also allegedly supplied the firearm that killed U.S. Border Patrol Agent David Maland, though no advancements have occurred in that case. She, along with Daniel Blank and group leader Jack “Ziz” LaSota, were arrested in Maryland for trespassing and illegal possession of firearms and drugs. All pleaded not guilty, with LaSota facing additional federal charges.
LaSota’s lawyers rebuff the ‘cult’ label and stress their client’s detachment from the term Zizian. Zajko has previously argued their Maryland arrest prevented them from exonerating Teresa Youngblut, who awaits trial for a Vermont murder.
Zajko lived with Blank in Vermont when her parents died. Under suspicion, police questioned her early on; she attended her parents’ funeral in Pennsylvania, where she was briefly detained. LaSota, also there, faced charges for obstructing the investigation, claiming innocence.
A family rift emerged before the 2022 murders. Zajko’s previous text exchanges with her father showed strained relations, while Rita Zajko attempted reconciliation on her daughter’s birthday, her wishes unanswered.
Thanking authorities for efforts to deliver justice, Richard Zajko’s sister-in-law, Roseanne Zajko, expressed the family’s long-endured struggles and hopes for closure through the legal proceedings.
District Attorney Tanner Rouse remarked on the crime’s incomprehensible nature, pointing toward unforgivable choices that led to suffering and tragedy.
