The Trump administration has stationed over 200 FBI analysts in Georgia, continuing to assert unproven allegations of fraud in the 2020 election. Critics argue this is a strategy to create doubt about the electoral process and future elections.
The deployment of 260 FBI investigators to Fulton County, Georgia, is part of a larger “priority” investigation. This move follows the Supreme Court’s decision allowing states to count mail ballots arriving after Election Day, thwarting President Trump’s attempts to change these rules. Additionally, a federal judge recently blocked an executive order requiring documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration.
“It is incredibly concerning,” said Marisa Pyle, a senior staffer with All Voting Is Local. “We’re heading toward very consequential elections and they, whether intentionally or not, are using this both as a tool for relitigating past grievances and trying to undermine people’s confidence in the system to keep people from voting.”
The Justice Department remains a vital player, conducting its investigations independently of presidential influences. It continues its criminal investigation into the 2020 Georgia election. A key action was the January FBI raid on a Fulton County election warehouse, where agents seized over 600 boxes of election materials, including original ballots from 2020.
This raid was prompted by disproven claims of ballot anomalies, based on an affidavit, which have been revived by Kurt Olsen from the Trump administration. Furthermore, federal agents recently searched an Ohio organization involved in voter registration drives.
