2 hours ago 0

France faced Paraguay in the Round of 16 match in Philadelphia, where high temperatures added to the challenges of the game. Despite being significant favorites, France, led by Kylian Mbappé, found Paraguay to be a formidable opponent.

Throughout the first half, France dominated the play, keeping the action mostly on Paraguay’s end. The intensity of the match reached its peak in the 35th minute when a shoving match broke out between Kylian Mbappé and Paraguay’s Andrés Cubas. While both teams remained on edge, Paraguay managed to keep the score at 0-0 by halftime.

Early in the second half, France created more scoring opportunities, including a close chance for Mbappé. In the 67th minute, a penalty kick was awarded to France following a foul against Desire Doue. After a VAR review, Mbappé converted the penalty, scoring his seventh goal of the tournament, tying him with Lionel Messi for the lead. This goal marked Mbappé’s 19th career World Cup goal.

After the goal, Paraguay struggled to maintain their earlier form, although they put pressure back on France towards the end of the match. Mike Maignan, France’s goalkeeper, was forced to make his only save in the final moments of the game. Paraguay’s strategy involved drawing three yellow cards from the French, and the post-match tension continued with more pushing on the field.

Despite the challenges, France emerged victorious and will face Morocco in the quarterfinals on Thursday in Boston.
